CBN/NYSC Annual Venture Prize- Are you worthy to receive it?

You are probably one of the  serving Corps members or one of the Batch A 2014 Corps members undergoing  orientation in any of the NYSC Camps across the Country. Well, below  is a piece of information that would interest you.
The Central Bank of Nigeria in the 2007/2008 service year introduced the Annual Venture Prize
Competition among serving corps members as part of its corporate social responsibility and in
consonance with the principles of the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy
(NEEDS). The initiative amongst others is aimed at reducing the dependence on and the endless search
for white collar jobs, arousing the entrepreneurial spirit of the Youth Corps Members during their
service year, and empowering youths by encouraging them to take ownership of their entrepreneurship
concepts and ideas.
The competition is open to serving National Youth Corps Member in every batch of a given year as
defined by the NYSC. The competition which is in two categories (State/ National) covers all legal
business concepts except commerce.
Modality:
States Category:
All business proposals received at the state level are subjected to critical examination by the state Inter-
Agency Selection Committee where three winners usually emerge.
National Category:
Ten best business proposals from each Development Finance Office are sent to the Department and
subjected to further examination by a National Selection Committee to select the national winners.
The cash prizes for the 2 levels of the competition are as follows;
National Awards State Awards
1st Prize: N1.0 million 1st Prizes: N200, 000
2nd Prize: N750, 000 2nd Prizes: N150, 000
3rd Prize: N500, 000 3rd Prizes: N100, 000
The winners are in addition to the above prize money given Certificate of Merit and are linked to banks
to sponsor their projects. Since the inception of the initiative a total of 440 corps members have
received the two categories of the awards which comprise of 9 national and 431 state winners.
