The newly appointed Director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Johnson Olawumi, has promised to make fairness, justice and equality his watchword during his tenure.
Olawumi who was appointed last December following the retirement of Brig.Gen. Okore-Affia,
gave the promise during an official ceremony in Abuja during which the former Director-General of the scheme, handed over mantle of leadership.
He also said the welfare of the staff would be a major priority, while warning against laxity.
"I promise to be open and fair and, in my tenure, there will be equity. Whatever you are due to get, you will get it," he promised.
In his valedictory speech, the outgoing DG, Brigadier-General Okore-Affia, said "NYSC, in the past 40 years, has impacted positively on the various sectors of our national life.
"It has been able to complement the manpower needs of the nation at the local, state and national levels, especially in the areas of education, health care delivery, agriculture and mentorship of youths for future leadership roles, among others."
He said during his tenure, he was able to achieve successful implementation of the approved expanded administrative structure of the scheme and enhancement of the security of corps members in all locations throughout the country.
Including e-registration of foreign trained graduates and comprehensive review of conditions of service for the scheme as part of his achievements, Okore-Affia noted that the achievements would not have been possible without the cooperation of workers.
He expressed the belief that Olawumi led-leadership would re-mould the scheme for a greater efficiency, while calling on staff to lend him their support.
